During my time with The Boeing Company, I had the opportunity to work with the Ergonomics Technology and Safety organization to improve various tasks performed on the shop floor. There are many jobs which require continuous overhead work by floor mechanics. This taxing work ultimately leads to many employee seeking shoulder surgery due to repetitive strain injuries. My team worked to implement exoskeletons to reduce the risks accosiated with overhead work. The video below (from 1:14-1:20) illustrates the type of tool my team developed.
My work for this project involved designing methods to interphase the exoskeleton with the various tools mechanics use. The work involved many hours of observations, CAD design, and prototype testing.
